Silver Mt. Zion Compact Disc

$30.00

Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra (usually known as simply A Silver Mt. Zion) are one of the world’s leading, most adventurous and most popular avant-garde rock acts today.

With over half-a-dozen albums to their name, their music has spanned “post-rock”, dark chamber dirges, choral works, grinding doomrock workouts and much more. Spawned from the same musical gene pool which gave the world the immensely influential and popular Godspeed You! Black Emperor they hail from Montreal, Canada.

Kollaps Tradixionales sees them forge a bold new ground in its search for a unique hybrid of punk, blues, psych, folk and modern classical sounds. Anchored by the fried electric guitar and plangent voice of band leader Efrim Menuck (who previously co-founded Godspeed You! Black Emperor), SMZ continues to slide comfortably and unforcedly towards an expansive, loose and blues-inflected balladry.

The sonic references are abundant, ranging from afrobeat to bouzouki music to hard bop to punk rock; the three phases of the album’s ‘title track’ on Side Three are indeed ‘traditionals’ of a sort, playing on tropes of American and Anglo-Saxon folk, marching song, sea shanty and hymnal.
Kollaps Tradixionales is another excellent step forward from the band, and as always comes housed in a beautiful screenprinted digipak c/o the Constellation label.

There’s also a deluxe, limited-edition CD with a special 16-page 7”×9” perfectly-bound art book of found-image collages by Efrim Menuck
and filmmaker/photographer Jem Cohen with a foil-embossed cover.

Vinyl version is a double 180g 10” set in a deluxe package that includes a CD copy of the album, the same art book as the deluxe CD and a ltd.-edition silkscreen poster.
